The University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Engineering and Mines will host its annual Engineering Open House from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2023.
CEM invites high school students, prospective college students and anyone curious about engineering to attend. Attendees can explore state-of-the-art labs, interact with current students and faculty, and learn about the cutting-edge research taking place at UAF.
They also can see the 57th annual ice arch built by engineering students, get a close look at the Stampede Trail bus made famous by the “Into the Wild” book and movie, and shoot rockets. Engineering students and clubs will provide exhibits and hands-on demonstrations in many fields: electrical, mechanical, petroleum, mining, civil, geological and computer engineering. The event will feature a photo booth, prizes, free food and T-shirts, while supplies last.
Participants who complete a scavenger hunt will be entered to win one of two $1,500 scholarships sponsored by ConocoPhillips, Golden Valley Electric Association and the Alaska 529 plan.
The open house will take place at the Usibelli Engineering Building on the Troth Yeddha’ Campus in Fairbanks. Parking is free on the weekend.
